Planning a large group dinner is not so simple. If made proper arrangements in well advance, then you can minimize the workloads of the evening, and so you can enjoy your guests and not have to spend all your time running in and out of the kitchen. Following ideas should be kept in mind, while organizing a dinner for groups:
- Always collect the information, regarding any restrictions with the guests. Know beforehand, whether, if any of the guests are vegetarian, kosher, or avoiding red meat due to any serious allergies.
- Keep in mind, details regarding the party's budget and level of formality. In case of large groups, it is always recommended to organize buffets rather than sit down affairs.
- The dishes must be chosen in such a way that they complement one another. If being a theme party, select dishes accordingly.
- Stick to simple menus and foods. Even an elegant party can make use of fine cheeses, imported hams and so on.
- Go for those dishes that can be completed in well advanced or can be served at room temperature.
- Before finalizing the menu, check the cooking times and see what time is required for each dish to be made.
- Finalize the menu at least a week in advance of the party.
- Always ask some of your good friends to help in the kitchen. Cooking for group requires a lot of chopping, mixing and stirring, and can be a little overwhelming.
- Whenever you have a break, wash dishes, as it would keep your kitchen more manageable as well as minimize the after-dinner task.
